Lærdal is a valley with steep mountains and beautiful nature. A good starting point for day trips by car, to experience nearby fjords, mountains and glaciers.

Visit Borgund stave church

From us it is a good starting point to visit the famous Borgund stave church, which is 2.5 km away.

The space has its own coffee and fast food

Get the dish of the day and traditional food. If you are renting a cabin or campsite, it is possible to buy food until 22:30.

Great starting point for walks

Walk the old road Vindhellavegen, the royal road Sverrestien and Galdane.

Borgund Hyttesenter and Camping are located along the E-16

600 m after the Borgund tunnel, you can drive about 25 km east from Lærdalsøyri.

The King’s Road across Filefjell

The King’s Road over Filefjell passes through Borgund Hyttesenter and Camping, which is located right next to the most spectacular hikes on this side of the mountain. Vindhellevegen is a mere 1,5 km walk, and Sverrestien 1,8 km. These hikes are roundtrips, and takes about 3 hours in total. A popular path that many chooses to follow is the one starting with Vindhellavegen that takes you to the former E16 motorway at Rimskjold, where you continue 100 meters east to the sign indicating the start of Sverrestien, and follow that path down to Borgund stave church.

Another roundtrip is the one that starts from Sjurhaugfossen. This route takes you along the Kings Road up the the old croft Galdane, where you can witness first-hand how people used to live back in the day. Keep going along the river to Selthun bridge, the eastwards along the hiking path to Koren. Take a right and enjoy the views from Bergenske Postvei before you end up at the former E16 motorway.

Even though these hikes can be done in a day, we recommend setting aside two.
At Borgund Hyttesenter and camping you can enjoy a well deserved dinner after a solid day of hiking.
